Our Local Union began in 1889. Local Union 1995 resulted from a merger of Local Union 452 Vancouver (chartered December 10, 1919) and Local Union 1251 New Westminster (chartered September 15, 1917). Local Union 452 came into existence through a merger of Local Union 617 (Chartered May 19, 1890) and Local Union 1803.

The boundaries extend north from the 55th parallel to the Yukon border and east from the Rocky Mountain trench to the Alberta border. The largest project completed by Local Union members was the W.A.C.Bennett dam. Currently, many of our members are School Board employees.

On January 1, 1991, Local Union 2458 Nelson merged in our Local. On November 1, 1996, Local Union 3214 Grand Forks merged into our Local Union. Members in the Kootenays have had many hours of employment on dam projects.
